「クール・ワイズ・メン改め、クール・ワイズ・マンです。踊っていきましょう!」

  光風のそんなMCで始まったこの日のクール・ワイズ・マンのライブ。アグロライツ、スカフレイムス、イージースター・オールスターズと続くスカ/レゲエの流れの先陣を切ったステージは、昨日とは打って変わってギラギラと照りつける太陽とも相まって、オーディエンスを陽気に踊らせた。

  のっけからアップテンポなスカであおり、ハモンドを利かせたスキンヘッド・レゲエではゆったりと左右にゆれる人の波をつくり、ゲスト・ボーカルにリクル・マイを迎えての歌モノではオーディエンスとの大合唱が生まれる。さらにはPAに迎えた内田直之によるダブの薫りもゆったりとくゆらせたりと、バックボーンには確かにラスタのソウルを感じさせながらもバラエティに富んだ楽曲は、これまでに共演してきたリコ・ロドリゲスやエディ・タンタン・ソーントン、あるいはミスター・シマリップと言ったレゲエ・レジェンドたちとのセッションが大いに影響していることは明らか。

  昨日より今日、今日より明日と、レジェンドたちにリスペクトを捧げながら自らを成長させていこうという姿勢が、メンバーみんなで心をひとつにしてこのバンドを成長させていこうという決意となり、冒頭の光風の言葉にもあるような「メン」を「マン」に変えるという改名につながったのだろう。

  “One love,One heart,Let’s get together and feel allright”

途中、ボブ・マーリーのそんなリフを持ってくるあたりにも、メンバーの心を、オーディエンスの心を、ひとつにまとめてシーンを盛り上げようという強い想いが感じられた。
