However, traditional metal catalysts suffer from issues such as poor selectivity and stability, as well as high cost and toxicity. Recently, a new class of materials called metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has shown great promise for catalytic applications. MOFs are porous materials consisting of metal ions or clusters linked together by organic ligands. They offer high surface area, tunable porosity and functional groups, and the ability to incorporate various metal species into their structures. In a recent study, researchers designed and synthesized a novel MOF containing atomically dispersed copper (Cu) sites for NO₂ reduction. The researchers used a strategy called “post-synthetic modification” (PSM) to introduce Cu sites into the MOF framework. The resulting material, named Cu-MOF-74-PSM, showed excellent NO₂ reduction activity and selectivity, as well as high stability under harsh reaction conditions.
